Overview

Ready to build, not maintain? Join as BDM to lead sales and events for an award-winning boutique hotel, with genuine autonomy and supportive owners.

This BDM offers a rare combination of sales advantages that usually do not occur together. The opportunity features a premium, privately owned property that is only three to four years old, highly acclaimed, and packed with untapped, easy sales opportunities. Furthermore, the stunning venue boasts a beautiful, highly awarded restaurant that enhances its upscale appeal.

Most sales and events jobs in hospitality are about keeping the function diary full and the reports tidy. This isn’t that.

It’s a beautiful boutique hotel up in the Blue Mountains. Lovely rooms, a genuinely good restaurant, function space and a couple of acres of it. The owners have built something special, and they’re the first to tell you the corporate and events side is running at maybe 40% of what it could be. That gap is the whole opportunity. They want someone to come in and own it.

About the Opportunity

This is privately owned, not a big corporate. One venue, run by owners you’ll actually sit across the table from, who make decisions in days rather than sending them off to a committee somewhere. You won’t get shuffled between properties and your team won’t change underneath you. This is yours to build and you’ll have the opportunity to move into a broader role in the business once you’ve got this section down.

Our daily operations are currently in excellent shape, backed by a capable team and highly efficient systems. However, we are missing a dedicated leader to drive our commercial strategy forward. The local corporate market is completely untapped, offering an exclusive territory with absolutely no competition and an abundance of easily attainable business opportunities.

It’s also part of a small group with a couple of other businesses. The main game here is growing the events and overnight corporate side, and that’s what we need first. But once that’s up and running, there’s genuine scope to move into a broader commercial role across the business. Nail the core and the runway is real.

The Role

You’ll work closely with the owners on where the business goes next, and your focus is simple. Bring in commercial growth. That means going after corporate groups who stay overnight, building the residential conference and midweek business, developing relationships across the local community, and creating the kind of events and experiences that get people coming back. You’ll be the face of the place too, out front and visible, especially when it’s busy on a Friday and Saturday.

One of the biggest advantages is the freedom to bring your ideas to life. When you identify an opportunity, you’ll have the autonomy to develop a plan, gain the owners’ support and see it through. With minimal bureaucracy, very little internal politics and plenty of untapped potential, you’ll have the space to make a genuine impact.

About You

You’ve come up through sales and events in a boutique or regional hotel, resort, winery, estate or lodge. Somewhere with rooms, function space and a restaurant, where you’ve had to go and create the business rather than wait for it to walk in.

You know how to fill a quiet midweek with a corporate group. You’ve sold residential conferences and day delegate business, and you’ve carried a room night number, not just booked function space. You’re just as comfortable hosting on the floor as you are selling, because in a place like this the two go together.

Most likely you’re on a bit less than this today, and this is a genuine step up. More money, a bigger remit, a stunning spot to do it in, and owners who’ll back you.

Why This One

You get to make it your own. Strong foundations already there, owners committed for the long haul, and a real say in where it heads. No getting moved on, no politics to wade through, just a great property and the room to grow it.

If you’re after another job keeping a diary full, this isn’t it. If you want somewhere your commercial thinking and drive actually move the needle, let’s have a confidential chat.

What’s On Offer

  • Salary package to $130,000 plus super, depending on experience.
  • One venue to own, with no getting moved around and no team churn.
  • A privately owned business that moves fast, with direct access to the owners.
  • A genuine say in commercial growth, guest experience and where the venue heads.
  • Owners who value initiative, back good ideas and invest for the long term.
  • Sales and events at the core now, with a genuine path into a broader commercial role once it’s established.
  • Part of a small group with a couple of businesses, so real room to grow over time.
  • The potential for one work from home day a week for the right person.
  • Relocation help considered for an exceptional candidate.
  • The Blue Mountains. Genuinely one of the best spots in the country to work.

If you’re ready to take on a role where you can grow the business, drive commercial performance and help shape the future of an exceptional property, we’d love to hear from you.
