About the Role
As Financial Controller, you will oversee all aspects of the hotel’s financial operations. You’ll manage a dedicated team, while mentoring and supporting their professional growth. Beyond financial stewardship, you will help cultivate a positive team culture, ensuring engagement, development and high performance.
You will work closely with the General Manager and owners to ensure transparency, accuracy, and compliance in all reporting. This hands-on role values your ability to combine commercial acumen with effective team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily finance operations, including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and month-end reporting.
- Ensure compliance with Australian tax and legislative requirements.
- Deliver accurate financial reports, forecasts, and analysis to ownership and leadership stakeholders.
- Drive efficiency and continuous improvement across financial systems and processes.
- Support and mentor team members, building knowledge of hotel finance and fostering career progression.
- Lead audits and ensure best practice compliance.
- Partner with operational leaders to optimise departmental performance, with a focus on labour costs and departmental P&Ls.
- Engage confidently with owners, auditors, and external stakeholders in a highly transparent environment.
About You
- Degree-qualified in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CA/CPA desirable.
- Previous hotel or hospitality finance experience essential.
- Strong technical knowledge of P&L management, general ledger, and tax legislation.
- Proficiency with hospitality finance systems (e.g., Sun Systems, Opera, Zambion, or similar).
- A collaborative leader with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop a small finance team.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders.
- Culturally aligned – approachable, humble, and team-oriented with no ego.
